Christmas tree Georgia

A look back at 2016

As 2016 comes to an end, I can safely say that most people aren’t going to miss it much in terms of celebrity news and world affairs. It. Has. Sucked. But what have I achieved this year? Did I do everything I wanted?

At the end of 2015, I set my goals for what I wanted to achieve in the year, so that’s as good a place as any to start:

Christmas tree Georgia

1. Lose weight

I had about a stone to lose this year which I wanted to lose by exercising and generally being more healthy. But life kinda got in the way of that plan. Instead, I lost the weight by having two sickness bugs – one of which I’m still recovering from. Not the nicest of way to lose the weight, but I have lost more than expected. In fact, my Christmas binge has probably helped to put a bit more weight on.

The only trouble with losing weight so fast is that most of my staple ingredients in my wardrobe are now far too big for me and I can’t afford to replenish my whole wardrobe with nice clothes in one shot! It’s a slow process, but I’ll get there.

2. Move house

Check. We moved house in July to a slightly bigger house that has a better layout for us. That too, was a bit of a nightmare with people threatening to pull out and our keys not being released till 5pm on move day. It as hectic, but we’re in now and all is well! I adore the area that we live in, being just a stone’s throw from fields and a park for Georgia to play in.

3. Improve my photography

This year, I was lucky enough to go on a photography course which really helped me to get to know my DSLR camera. I think I’ve improved, but it’s a never ending journey and one I’m going to continue.

4. Go self hosted with the blog

I went self-hosted with my blog fairly early in 2016 and it wasn’t actually too painful a process. I’ve also recently updated the look and feel of my blog to improve it – I hope it’s now easier to navigate and nicer to read although I’ll let you be the judge of that.

5. Treat myself to more me time

I think I’ve made an effort this year to treat myself to more me-time. I’ve been to the spa for a day with friends which was AMAZING and had a few indulgences along the year. It’s so important to invest time in yourself in order to be a happier and healthier person.

Back to work

2016 was also importantly the year that I went back to work and began to juggle a work-life balance of bringing up Georgia (see what I did there..?) and my career. I work 4 days a week and for me, I think I’ve struck the right balance. Sure, some weeks are harder than others but I know that Georgia has settled in incredibly well to nursery which makes it much easier. She has absolutely loved going to nursery this year – although we had a rocky start, starting with our first nursery lurgy as it took me about 2 months to have a full week at work.

I went to 3 blogging conferences this year: Blog on, Blogfest and BritMums Live. Going to conferences as a blogger is really important to help grow and develop your blog, but in the future, I think I’m going to be more selective. I may not attend them all next year as the information does tend to be repeated although it is always a fab experience to attend and to meet fellow bloggers.

2016 – You’re fired!

For me, 2016 has been a pretty eventful year as you can see. I’ve achieved everything I wanted and more so I can’t complain – it’s just the packages they came in may not have been entirely what I was expecting. I’m looking forward to seeing what 2017 has to offer!

Did you do everything you set out to achieve this year?
